Zune HD Battery Replacement Tutorial


This tutorial will show you how to replace the battery in your Zune HD. Obviously the main symptom of a worn out battery is decreased battery life This is not a simple job and requires some soldering.

Stuff you will need:

  • A few small screwdrivers (torx, flathead)
  • Ziplock bags for screws and small parts
  • X-acto knife with a #17 blade
  • Basic soldering equipment

zune hd opening First, open up your Zune HD by following our Zune HD Opening Tutorial.
zune hd battery glued The silver rectangle is the battery. It is attached to the Zune HD frame with some very sticky adhesive. Use your x-acto to gently pry all around the battery until you're able to peel it off.
zune hd motherboard screws To get to the battery wires you have to get to the other side of the motherboard. To do that you need to remove the three torx screws circled in red.
zune hd headphone jack Pry up on the hadphone jack...
zune hd headphone removed ... and leave it attached like shown in the picture.
zune hd mobo connectors Outlined in green are three connectors that plug into the motherboard. To disconnect them all you have to do is push up with a flathead screwdriver or your fingernail.
zune hd mobo cables disconnected The connectors and the sockets on the motherboard that they plug into.
zune hd mobo clips The motherboard is held to the frame by the three black clips outlined in red. Push the clips in the direction of the arrows as you pry up on the motherboard.
zune hd battery wires Now flip the motherboard over and you'll see the three wires for the battery. Desolder them and solder in the wires from the new battery. Installation is the reverse of removal.
