iPhone 2G (1st Generation) Battery Replacement Tutorial

This tutorial will show you how to replace the battery in your iPhone 2G aka the first generation iPhone. This is not a simple job and requires some soldering.

Stuff you will need:

  • A few small screwdrivers (phillips, flat head)
  • Ziplock bags for screws and small parts
  • X-acto knife with the flat #17 blade
  • Basic soldering equipment

iphone 2g opening To get to the screen you'll have to open your iPhone. This is probably the hardest part of this job and is covered in our iPhone 2G Opening Tutorial.
iphone 2g headphone cable Before continuing you need to disconnect the headphone jack cable from the motherboard. All you have to do is use your screwdriver to push up on the top half of the connector and it will pop right off.
iphone 2g battery outlined The battery is outlined in green. It is attached with some sort of adhesive. Use your x-acto blade to slowly peel it off.
iphone 2g battery wires The battery is connected to the motherboard by these three wires. You have to desolder them and then solder in the wires from the new battery. Remember which wire goes to which pad!
